"One of the things I was concerned about (using pitching machines) was the ball constantly being thrown in the same spot over and over again. No matter how many times we adjusted the speed, the batter would adjust. What we needed was a change in location; a change to inside; a change to outside.

My problem with that was, can the batter see the change the machine is making. With the Pitch Twister, the oscillation is very slight, so in order to see the movement you have to stand in the batter's box and stare at the machine. With the addition of protective screens in front of the machine, it is very difficult to pick up any movement.

My players have a love/hate relationship with the machine. They love the concept because they know they are going to become better hitters, but they hate it because it is so hard to do."
